"Uhh, why, thank you for allowing me this wonderful opportunity," you say, trying to look around the room for inspiration. "Aye, is this going to be a story of an adventure ye've been on personally?" the captain says.
"...yes. Of-of course it will be. What else?"
You give a nod and a half-smile to the captain. He narrows his eyes(click: "eyes")[(set: $introDs += 1)(goto: "Eyes Desc")], but makes no objections and lets you continue. He seems to believe that you, of all people, is actually an adventurer of some sort. Neat.

You take a step back as the captain moves towards you.
"It especially doesn't make a great story, since Aye know that ye live." the captain opens the door behind you and has the pirate who let you in escort you out. He makes you walk in front of him and his pirate. "You're here right now, and unlike us, still go yer skin on bones on ya."
There is a pause. "Not if we throw ye overboard though." the other pirate suggests.
"Aye feel like that is too easy," the captain says, looking out towards the sea. "Ye see that island out there Jenkins?"

[[it was 1985.|Eighties]]"Ye invited them over on the first date?" the captain sighs and stand up from his bed. "Aye can see why $datePro didn't end up showing."
"Uh, how do you know that $datePro didn't end up showing?" you say, making eye contact with the ground.
"Aye have been around for a while," he says, drapping his hand across your shoulders. "Aye know a thing or two about the dating life. Ye want to make the opening few dates as approachable as possible. Ye both don't know each other yet. Ye could be a total creep and $datePro wouldn't want to risk it by not being on neutral ground."
You nod, understanding his words. "So, should I ask them out on a date again, or just write it off as a loss?"
"Aye would say it would come down to how long ago this story takes place," the captain's face is beaming. "If it is less than a month ago, Aye say don't risk it. If it has been a month, Aye think ye could apologize and try it again."
"And," the captain breaks away to grab something from his drawers. After a bit of searching, he pulls out a golden necklace. "if a few dates go well, give her this as a gift. Not the first date mind you. That would be creepy."
And thus, you were sailed back to port and given a second shot. You hope that $datePro will accept you this time, but that is a story for another time. The pirates are split on whether they think that is a good idea or not. They are in deep discusion.Disappointed by your lack of dating skills, they stop listening to your romance story. Who wants to hear a story about romance when the person has no experience in it?
They throw you overboard."Ye wait just a minute," the captain rolls over in his sheet and stares at you. "That poster wouldn't be available at that time!"
Before you can mutter a response, the captain walks over to you. "Inconsistency is the calling card of lying. And Aye can't handle liers on my boat."
"Does that mean you'll drop me off?"
The captain places a bony hand on your shoulder and grins. "Of course."
*sploosh*
And with that, you find off the side of the boat. You wonder how long you'll be human in the cold waters below. It turns out, not long before the waves swallow you."Ye know, the film industry is currently going under a strange splintering, Aye would say," the captain says. "It seems like the medium is being pulled between monetary gains and art gains."
The door to the captain's room opens. The pirate who had led you here peaks in. "Well captain, that's been going on for years now," he says. "Ever since the modern blockbuster was created in the 80's, there has been this mainstream split. I would even say before that with the rise of the big touring musicals, there was also this difference between cinema for entertainment and cinema for progressing the art form.
The discussion gets more intense, as counterpoints from the monetary profit of culture to class differences playing into the availability of ones work. There is then a lull in the conversation.

"And I waited, waited, and waited. I took a deep breath and swung with the perfect timing to send my lime green golf-ball right through the dangerous blades of the windmill. The dragon, however, got too aggressive and had her ball bounce off its blades.
And so, I had won."
You watch as the captain snuggles down into his sheets. "Great story laddy, great story," you watch him turn away from you. "Tell the pirate that let ye in here that ye are free to go. Aye have some sleep to take care of..."
His voice fades out and you step backwards out of the room. The pirate who let you in greets you.
"I heard what he said, along with your story," the pirate says as he guides to the rowboat they use for trips going ashore. "I would love to get lessons from such a mini-golf master, such as yourself. Would pay you."
You chuckle and politely decline the offer. You don't want them to find out you don't know the difference between a driver and a putter.
You listen as he tells you which stars you should row to in order to get back to shore. You follow his instructions and find out that he was indeed telling the truth. Life gets back to normal over time, although your golf skills never do improve."Ye stabbed the dragon with your putter, did Aye hear ye right?" the captain tilts his head as he looks at you.
"Yes...?"
"With what edge did you stab with?" the captain pulls a putter out from behind his bed. "Because scallywag, all I see on this beast is rounded corners. This is probably the worst weapon to stab with."
You gulp.
"Even if ye tried to knock the dragon out, the size difference would make that ineffective," the captain says, approaching you with the putter. "Besides, ye clearly said stabbed anyways."
The captain grabs you and tosses you towards the edge of the ship. With a swing of the putter, he knocks you down into the ocean below. Hole in one.
"How did you make the shot with your eyes closed?" the captain tilts his head back slightly, laying to rest against the pillow.
"Oh, I didn't actually make the shot at all," you say. "But-but the dragon was so impressed that I had such bravery to do that she allowed me to live. We now go mini-golfing together in our spare time."
The captain chuckles. "It's always nice to have a story grounded in realness. Aye cannot tell you the number of tales Aye have heard where they play up their heroicness."
The captain offers you a place to sleep and promises to release you at the first port they come across. And, true to his word, you are fed and find yourself back at the shore once again."You decided on a game of pure luck to escape alive?" the captain says, shifting his weight in the bed, causing the floor to creak.
"...yes?" you say, eyeing him to see if you said something wrong. You see the captain smile.
"Aye can respect someone who gives their all to lady luck," the captain chuckles and reaches into the drawers next to him. He pulls out a pair of dice. "How about we do something similar now? Take these two dice here and say whether it will be even or odd."
He walks over and places the two dice and his bony hand into yours. "If ye are right, we drop you off at the next port. If ye are wrong, yer trip ends here."
He steps back, allowing you room to roll. "It shouldn't be a problem for a gambler like ye, no?"

The captain rolls out of his bed and marches up to you. He uses his bony arms to pin you against the wall. "Everyone knows that is impossible! Spades is a 4-player game. Ye cannot duel someone in Spades. Ye are a liar. Overboard with ye!"
The captain busts down his bedroom door and the rest of the crew watch you as you are hurdled over the side of the boat and into the cold waters below. You feel water rush up your nose and you start to gag on it. Soon you will be playing cards with Davy Jones himself. You'll have to find a couple more dead mates if you like Spades though.
"I agreed upon a game of Uno," you pause as you let your choice sink in, "because dragons are colored blind. Therefore, she played the incorrect card multiple times, causing me to win by disqualification.
And so, I was able to walk away from it all a free man. And that's how I cheated certain death with cards."
The captain applauds. "Such a story of cleverness and boldness! What wit. We'll make sure ye get home as soon as possible. We don't want ye to trick us out of something valuable."
And so, the captain makes sure you get a wonderful night sleep and release you at the nearest port. You hear the pirate crew singing a sea-shanty about the uno playing wizard. You wonder a bit of fame gained by lying to skeleton pirates will ever stab you in the back.

The captain's sigh mixes in with the creekiness of his bed as he rolls over. "And here Aye thought yer cowardness was a reference to something."
You chuckle to yourself and stare at the opposite wall. You try to think of a way to recover from this awkward situation.
"If it helps at all," the door opens and it is revealed that the pirate who led you here is now speaking. "I don't get his references either."
"Jenkins!" the captain sits up in his bed and stares at him. "Yer not helping his cause."
Jenkins shrugs. "What should I do with him?"
"Toss him in the brig," your eyes go wide by the thought of dying in a jail. "Keep him there until we reach a port. While he is down there, make him listen to my music playlist. Maybe he will appreciate his missed music opportunities."
And thus, you spend the next 24 hours listening to a mix of punk and alternative music. It isn't harmful to your ears but simply isn't your style. You do understand his reference now though.
They reach a port and they let you walk free. Years on, you are never quite sure if this actually all happened. It feels like a weird dream that occurred, more than an actual turn of events. The captain guffaws and grins. "Someone around here who appreciates my music choice."
He rolls out of bed and gives you a pat on the back. You give a bit under the surprisingly strong force of the bony hand and sheepishly grin back at him.
"Aye remembered something," the captain turns around and rustles in the drawers. You hear clinking and clanking until you hear an "ah ha!" You see the captain has two white rectangles in his phalanges.
"Would ye want to go to a concert with me?" he shows you two tickets to a Panic! at the Disco concert.
And that's how you ended up going to a live performance with a skeleton pirate. You were surprised at how nonchalantly the other people were. One or two people even complimented the captain's outfit. You two become great buds and he even gives you a number you can call if you ever wanted to talk or needed his help.
Like if you ever ended up being attacked by mermaids. But that's a different story."This sounds like the start to a porno," the captain says with a scoff.
"No, no," your face feels flushed. "This is not a lewd story."
"Ye know what, I agree," the captain says, leaning back into his pillow. "Ye here would have to be attractive for it to be a porno!"
The captain bursts into laughter. You hear a muffled laugh coming from behind you. You turn around to open the door and find the pirate would led you in here cracking up as well.
The pirate gathers himself before saying with a grin, "if I saw you in a porno, my suspension of disbelief would be shot!" and then rolls back into a state of laughter once again.
You try to get the story back on track, but it is no use. The captain and his first mate take turns making jokes about you at your expense. "Let's get this talented man to shore so he can make some more awesome movies!"
And so, they did. They plop you on shore as fast as skeletonly possible. The captain you signed for made sure of it.
Before the pirates leave though, the captain goes up to you and gives you a half hug, before pulling away before any of the crew sees.
"If it is possible," the captain whispers in your ear. "If ye could, credit 'Captain Harris Flounders' in ye next movie, okay?"
You smile and nod as you watch him get on board and sail away with the rest of his crew.
You never get Captain Harris Flounders into the credits of a Saw movie. How could you, since you weren't really James Wan. You had lied after all. Lied about being the director and lied about being able to get him into that movie.
Although you can now lie once again in your bed at home, so is that really a bad thing? You glance past the pirate leading you to who knows where to instead admire the layout of the ship you were on. Cannons line the edge of the ship, which are licked by a mist of the salty sea below whenever the ship hints a wave. You are being led towards an elevated area where the wheel sits. This elevated area births a door in its side, which is accommodated with a rowboat and a window. And this set of items is getting ever closer.
[[You push another push from behind and turn your attention back to the angry pirate.|Intro]]Despite telling yourself that thinking about your sinking boat wasn't important, you cannot help but let your mind slip back. You were shocked when the storm came out of nowhere and sent your sloop (which you called the S.S. Willie) into the side of this larger wooden ship. You think that your Willie is deeply submerged and wet to the bone.
...You chuckle at your "clever" wordplay.
[[You focus on the issue that needs to be solved: surviving.|Intro]]Who doesn't love an angry mob? You see an array of skeletons formed in a diamond shape across the deck. Cutlasses are being waved in the air. You pretty sure one of the pirates is waving his own arm in his hand. Or maybe that is the arm of a nearby pirate. You cannot really tell in the sea of white. You hope that they won't use your own arm as a rioting tool.
[[In order to keep both of your arms intact, you decide to focus back on the problem at hand.|Intro]]There is a large skeleton lying in a bed in front of you. Two boney hands grip the end of linen sheets. He is wearing a blue and white striped night gown. You wonder if he is wearing any pants under those sheets. You then start to wonder why skeletons choose to wear clothing at all. Maybe it is to seperate themselves from the dead? Or maybe because they want to be fashionable.
[[You tune back in as he starts talking to you.|Halt]]Your stare down at your brown boots. They're nice quality and you got them on clearance. You wouldn't have spent the money on said boots if they weren't. They have had a lot of practical purposes in the past, although right now they are great for keeping your eyes off of that skeleton pirate who is indeed looking at you. You flick your eyes up to discover they are also wearing boots. Good for them.
[[You can resist waiting no longer and bring your attention back to the crowd.|Halt]]"Speak already!" the captain says, shaking his fist from his bed. "There isn't any good to ye if ye just stand there!"
[[You apologize to the captain about the delay and continue on.|Story On]]You stop your speaking as your stare at the captain's eyes. You don't consider yourself a skeleton expert by no means, but you didn't think skeletons had actual eyes. Although you did think skeletons were always dead, and they've already proven you wrong there.
You try to break away, but you are drawn back to his eyes. Yellow eyes is the color of them across the stern. If they were going for spooky, they got their eye color down. Red would have pushed it into creepy territory.
[[You end your eye thought and return back to speaking.|Story On]]"That does it," the captain scoops you up in his grasp. "Ah am gonna delay no further and just end this here."
You struggle a bit in his grasp, but to no avail. You see the edge of the ship get closer and closer.
"Any final words?" he says, while holding you by your arm over the edge of the ship.
Before you can say anything, he says, "Well Ah am not waiting for any response from ye," and drops you into the waters below. Maybe you should focus more on speaking and less on looking.
You hear murmuring of agreement from the two pirates.
"Ah see that ye be also interested in film," the captain says. "Would ye be interested in participating in Jenkins' movie project?"
"It is by far more a project than a movie at this point," Jenkins says with a chuckle.
"Don't be so bashful," the captain says. "Aye have read his script. It has great promise."
"Umm," you don't know what to say. "Sure...?"
"Great!" Jenkins grabs your hand and shakes it. "We land tomorrow for filming! We can make you a star!"
And they did. Turns out a movie made by skeleton pirates is a hook all its own. You are forever remembered as that human running away from skeletons in that one movie. The fame isn't too huge, but the money is enough to live a solid life. You back out of the room and then you sneak to the rowboat. You struggle a bit moving it off the ship, but the captain so consumed with how transitions between scenes can help relate what the mood that scene should be to notice you. You jump into the boat and then the boat jumps into the sea waters below.
It takes a bit of effort, but you finally make your way back to dry land. You wonder about why those pirates were cinephiles. You brush the thought off as risking your life in order to discuss film didn't seem like a fair deal. You say, "We were both nature lovers, so I ended up deciding that we should go outside and do some exploring of the outdoors. You see the captain turn away from you and look up at the treasure map on his wall. You watch him sigh, but you continue speaking.
"That's why we decided to meet up to rob...
[[a bank."|Bank Hiest]]
[[a movie theatre."|Movie]]"And everything was going well at the bank too. We were able to surprise the guards and have control of the situation. Somehow, as they always do, the police got whiff that something was going down."
The captain nods, still looking at his map. He reaches for something on his drawers. You look over and see a pistol resting on top, along with a glowing sword and a lamp.
The pistol makes its way into your head. "It was at that moment that I pulled out my gun and aimed it at the...

"Nothing like falling to show that ye love nature," the captain says, smirking at his joke.
"I mean," you panic a bit when you realize that doesn't make too much sense. "One of my nature loving friends actually recommended it to us."
"Who?"
"Uh, you wouldn't know him."
"That's besides the point," the captain taps his skull. "Trying to make a mental image of yer life, no?"
You decide to throw a name out there. "<input type="text" data-varname="firstFriend">\

"Aye see. How did ye know him?"

There is a pause as he is thinking and you are panicking. "Jenkins!" the captain breaks the silence.
The pirate that had led you into this room opens said door. "Yes?"
"Give this man a rowboat. Let's let his lack of navigation skills be his own downfall."
You are thrown on a rowboat by yourself and sent to try and navigate your way home at night. It doesn't work out well."Did ye let the hostage live?"
"Well," you bite your lip. "There's a bit of story to go before we get to-"
"Aye don't care," the captain is looking straight at you. His yellow eyes aren't as bright as they once were. "Did you let the hostage live?"
[[You say that you did.|Freed]]
[[You say that you didn't.|Return the Favor]]The captain looks up at you. "Ye decided to duel the shierff?"
"Yes..." you decide to go with the captain's idea. The word "duel" makes you think of a western. "We both went outside, to make sure no one inside would be harmed. And then we stood in the sidewalk, staring each other down, waiting for the other one to reach for their gun first.

You find yourself with the pistol you saw on his dresser in your hand pointed at the captain.
"Fire it," he says, staring into your own eyes, his yellow ones versus your brown ones. "See what happens."
[[You shoot it.|Fired Upon]]
[[You don't shoot it and place it back where it was before.|Repentance]]
[[You get down on one knee and propose to him with it.|Suck Up]]You close your eyes and fire. You open them again to find the yellow lights dimming out of his eyes. The door slams open and you whip around to find the pirate who brought you here equipped with a sword.
"Did you dare shoot our captain?" the pirate's eyes flip between the gun and the captain. You look down at the gun in your hand and feel the smell of smoke brush against your nose.
"Now what?" the pirate charges up to you and presses his cutlass against your throat. "You have a whole crew to defeat now. Good luck."
"Ye clearly are not a smart man," you whip around again to see the lights returning back to the captain's eyes. He lowers his eyes to look at the hole you made in his pillow. He grabs his hat, stands up, and walks past you to look out the window.
"Do ye think one bullet would have freed me from this purgatory?" the captain makes eye contact with the moon. "Aye haven't been wanted by the living nor the dead. Rejected by both time and time again. What makes ye think ye will end this suffering?"
He gestures for his gun. His first mate grabs it out of your hand and places it in the captain's hand.
"Existing in this state is something that Aye wouldn't dare oppose on anyone," the captain mulls over the gun before pointing at you. "But I'm willing to make this one exception."
You hear a bang and then feel like someone is taking a straw and sucking away all feeling that you have. What is replaced with a cold, metallic feeling in its place. You look down to discover you are now a skeleton too.
"Throw him in the brig," the captain turns back to face the moon. "He'll suffer like the rest of us.""Aye, err," the captain stares at you with narrowed eyes. He looks away from your kneeling and tries to find something else to look at. "Aye, Aye am flattered, Aye guess? Aye don't even know what to say."
The door is suddenly kicked in and in barges the pirate you first met when you came on the ship. He looks at you and then back up at the captain. "Can I be the best man?"
"Jenkins, please," the captain throws his hands down at his side. "Do ye honestly think-"
"I'm perfectly fine with that," you say, giving Jenkins a thumbs up. Jenkins races up and hugs you two both.
"I'm so happy for you two!" Jenkin squeezes the embrace even harder. "I know you two just barely met, but I believe true romance can spawn in just a few moments of seeing each other. The stories I've heard have shown this to be true!"
And thus, on July 14th, you were married to a Captain Harris Flounders. It was a perfect ship wedding, with the cannons fired when the two of you kissed. You didn't mind kissing his boney lips, the warm feeling that filled you whenever he would laugh afterward made up for the coldness of his skull. The captain gets up with a smile as you place the gun back where you grabbed it from.
"There is hope for ye yet," he says, sliding a hand across your shoulder. "Ya actually remind me of what Aye was back in the day. Ye need a little guidance, that's all."
He takes a few steps back and places his hands on his hips and looks you up and down. "Aye will take ye under my wing and we'll make a great team, Aye know it to be true. Unlike all your stories."
And that's how you became the 2nd in command on the <i>Neptune Horizon</i>. Your duties mainly ended up being talking face to face with other humans, since they would not be spooked by your presence. After a while, you started to dread this job, but you didn't want to anger a gang of skeleton pirates. You learned how far their influence spread. You didn't know if you ever could escape.
Until, one day, death gave you an escape. It was forgotten that you actually were affected by the whole death thing, so one plunder caused your demise. At least you escaped doing HR.The captain swings his feet out from the sheets. "So the shierff fired before ye could?"
You shake your head. "I actually never meant to fire. I wanted to diffuse my mistake as fast as I could. I realized that one of us could get seriously harmed from my actions. I don't think I could have lived with the thought of harming him like that."
The captain nods and smiles. "Ye are correct. Ye don't want to live with that pain. Where did ye end up shot?"
"The thigh," you say before adding, "it has fully healed without a scar."
"No physical scar since there was no mental scar," the captain smirks. "Well Aye will not end to your mental burden anymore. Let's get you ashore."
By the time the sun rises, you find yourself seeing a port in the distance. You thank the captain as you set foot back on solid ground. He salutes you before turning around with his ship and escaping out of your life.

Murmurs come back from the crowd. The bandana pirate turns his skull towards the ground and scoots back.

"Well, yeah," you poke around in your head for a reason. "I don't like to give out my signature...?"
The captain squints at you with his bright yellow eyes. "Yer not James Wan, are ye?"
Before you can say anything, the captain springs onto his feet.
"You. Are. A. LIAR!" the captain's footsteps match his punctuation. He rips the pen out of your hand. "Jenkins!"
The pirate that had led you into this room opens said door. "Yes?"
"Do your worse to him."
You try to backtrack out of your idea of writing nothing, but it is too late. You feel two chains snap around your ankles. You look down to see them attached to a metal pipe that had two cannon balls sitting on either way. You watch as the pirates take the pipe and you over to the ledge and toss them both in the waters below. You go beneath the surface and sink to the bottom. You nod your head but then pause. "Wait, do I also need to be a skeleton?"
The captain chuckles as he turns back to you. "Nonsense. The reason that we're all skeletons is because there is not a living soul that wants to join us. Flesh would be a nice change around here."
And so, you end up being the $crewPosition for them for the rest of your days. They even manage to re-animate you when you end up falling in a swordfight. You have loyal friends forever. The captain sighs and looks out the window once again. "Aye understand. Ye have a life out there that is yer own. Aye shouldn't take that away from ye. New blood would have been nice, but Aye respect yer decision."
The captain throws off his sheets and walks over to his door. He gives it a knock. After a moment, the pirate that brought you here opens it.
"Jenkins," the captain says. "Give this man a rowboat so he can row ashore. His life needs him elsewhere."
You are given on a rowboat to navigate by yourself and sent on your way home at night. Your basic understanding of the stars allows you to each shore eventually and make it to civilization before any harm comes to your body."And then," the captain rises to his feet. "so shall Aye. Aye have made that mistake once before. Aye never want to see it get done again."
He strolls over to his door and gives it a knock. After a moment, the pirate that brought you here opens it.
"Jenkins," the captain says. "Let us sail towards the nearest port. We have no need to keep this man here from his life. He would be missed if we kept him here too long."
You are little confused where this sentiment came from, but you are not complaining when you find your self safe on shore. The captain grabs his pistol and hoists it at you. "Aye have no patience for people who disrespect the lives of others."
"Wait, wait," you try and backtrack as the gun moves towards your forehead. "The job needed to get done though! Losses happen so we can gain. You as a pirate can understand that, right?"
"I did," the captain rests his finger on the trigger. "Too well."
And with a bang, you find your story comes to a close."So, ye spilled blood just to prove that ye could!?"
"Well, I-" your thought process is cut short by the sudden rising of the captain.
"Do ye have any idea what pain ye could have caused?"
"Umm," you didn't think about the consequences of a fictional story. "No?"
The captain grabs you by the throat. "That police officer might have had a family. Friends. Co-workers. Ye caused them all pain."

Your attempt to give a counterargument is cut short by a hand around your neck. "What ye say, the stories ye tell, reflect ye. And right now, ye are looking pretty nasty in my eyes."
The captain carries you out of his room and out towards the side of the ship. You are now dangling over the edge of the sea below. Well, you were dangling, because the captain has now let gone and has allowed you to meet a shark that was chilling below.
"Just," the captain eyes go towards the floor, "leave me. Tell the pirate that brought ye to me that Aye order him to give ye a rowboat. Aye need to be myself."
You walk out the door and run into the skeleton that he was talking about.
"I heard what he said," his tone is softer than when he barked orders at you before. "I don't think you meant him pain, but I think it is best that you leave."
He shows you a rowboat and tells you which stars you should row to in order to get back to shore. You follow his instructions and find out that he was indeed telling the truth. Life gets back to normal over time, but the image of the hurt pirate captain lingers in your mind. You jump onto her back and hang on for your life as she shoots off into the sky. That's how you find yourself falling overboard once again. Probably not the best to ignore the man who holds your life in his bony hands."Ye wait just a minute," the captain rolls over in his sheet and stares at you. "That wasn't yer date's name!"
Your eyes go wide. That's why he was making you say all those names. Before you can mutter a response, the captain walks over to you. "Inconsistency is the calling card of lying. And Aye can't handle liers on my boat."
"Does that mean you'll drop me off?"
The captain places a bony hand on your shoulder and grins. "Of course."

And with that, you find off the side of the boat. You wonder how long you'll be human in the cold waters below. It turns out, not long before the waves swallow you."Aye know that feeling too well laddy," the captain looks down at the bed in front of him. "Aye have had many the tale like that."
"Dates rejecting you?"

You look over at the captain and see the light spark underneath his eye. The captain notices your stare and wipes away the tear. He turns to you with his chest puffed out.
"Aye don't say this to many visitors," the captain places his bony hand on your shoulder. "But Aye feel like the crew would benefit more with ye here. What do ye say, would you like to join the <i> Neptune Horizon </i>?"
